BUDGET SAVING POTS
When I first got serious about gardening about a year ago I looked for deals when it came to gardening pots. The intricate designed ones I was most attracted too, but most of these cost several times more than my plants.
Since I had limited space as well as a limited budget, I had to find pots at a reasonable price but still quality made. I came across the Fiskars 12 Inch Ariana Planter with Self-Watering Grid, Thyme Green (20-56412) and was sold, several times. These make great cost effective planters for beginning gardeners or gardeners who don’t want to spend too much on a pot.
As with any product, the Fiskars Ariana Plantar with Self Watering Grid has pros and cons. I may add to this list in the future.
- Pots come in a variety of colors
- Self-watering system
- Durable and long lasting
- Prevents self-rot
- Variety of sizes available
- no holes in bottom for drainage
A note on this con. I have seen others say that this planter is not a true self watering planter since there are no holes in the bottom or side. This can easily be remedied by pushing through the perforated holes that are in place or by using a drill.
Since these pots are made of plastic they can be easily drilled into. I highly recommend doing this before placing dirt or plants in the pot, since this will add unneeded weight while drilling.
WHO IT IS FOR
Beginner gardeners and gardeners who don’t want to spend too much on pottery will benefit from the Fiskars Ariana Plantar with Self Watering Grid. I have three of these in different colors and the planters work great for all the plants I have in them.
These are great starter planters and also for those gardeners (like me) who want the focus to be on the plants and flowers in the pot, not the pot itself.
The plantar comes with a self-watering grid that goes on the bottom of the pot, on the inside. This is to help prevent the plant from sitting in water. I also like how the self-watering grid can be removed by hand.
I recently transferred a plant out of one of my pots, and some of the roots grew through the holes in the grid. I was able to easily remove the roots by taking out the grid and cutting the roots back.
